Ganesh Chaturthi: Why  it is celebrated?

Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated as the birthday of  lord Ganesha, son of Lord Shiva and Parvati. It is 10 days long Hindu festival. Lord Ganesha is God of Beginnings and obstacles averter(Vighnaharta).

This 10-day festival starts with bringing Lord Ganesha in our homes, then prayers are offered and ultimately on last day of this festival Visharjan is done of Lord Ganesha in water with a faith and belief that all obstacles and problems will be eradicated and prosperity will follow.
